Church Member Commitment & Consistency

Church membership is vital for the church community; in fact church membership is indeed the church community. Church commitment is defined as having a long-term relationship to church fellowship with your brothers and sister in Christ, service, and giving. While consistency means being consistency engaged in church activities.

Building a church community of consistency and commitment:

  • Encourages members to gather for worship, teaching, communion, and prayer continually and habitually (Let us not give up meeting together – Hebrews 10:24-25).
  • Promote and maintain accountability and healthy interdependence, while still creating space for flexibility.
  • Encourage members to make a lifestyle of practicing prayer, Bible reading, evangelism, service, learning, devotional time, fellowship, and more.
  • Anticipate that church members who commit to a community will build long-term relationships and engage in regular activities and services.

As church leaders, we must build positive relationships with our church members. If someone wants to commit to church service, they are more prone to do so if they feel loved, have a sense of value from the church community, and believe that committing to service is ultimately committing to God’s work.

Jesus Christ met people’s immediate needs whether it was love, healing, or instruction.  When He healed the leper in Matthew 8, Jesus not only met the man’s physical needs; He gave him value in a society that marginalized people with leprosy. Building a church community means meeting people where they’re at.
