THE IMPORTANCE OF SPEAKING IN TONGUES

What does it mean to speak in tongues? Speaking in tongues, also known as glossolalia, is a practice in which individuals make sounds or words that resemble speech and are frequently seen by believers to be in a language they are not familiar with.

So why is speaking in tongues important? Speaking in tongues enhances faith and teaches us to have more complete faith in God.

When Scripture says ““For he who speaks in a tongue does not speak to men but to God, for no one understands him; however, in the spirit he speaks mysteries.” 1 Corinthians 14:2 According to the verse , if you speak in a tongue, you SHOULD NOT SPEAK TO MEN, AS NO ONE CAN UNDERSTAND YOU because Speaking in tongues is a spiritual language that only God can understand

Some people also mistakenly think that speaking in tongues is an actual and natural language but no, Speaking in tongues is a private language that only you and God may use. It is the place where spoken mysteries are used to directly connect your spirit with His Spirit.

Another Scripture says “But he who prophesies speaks edification and exhortation and comfort to men. He who speaks in a tongue edifies himself, but he who prophesies edifies the church.” (1 Corinthians 14:3-4)

So what does  The word “edifieth” mean? It is meant  “to build up” so when we discuss how praying in the Spirit edifies us, we do not mean that our minds are also enlightened. The edification is received by our spirit; it also strengthens our most sanctified belief and maintains our undying faith in God’s love.

Therefore, it is crucial for us Christians to understand the situation. Like all spiritual gifts, the ability to speak in tongues is a supernatural gift. Without God’s help, it is not common in the world around us, and it is a method for Christians to glorify the Lord and strengthen their bonds with one another.
