Christians have had different ambiguities in identifying the ‘Spirit’ and its functionalities. There have been so many description and confusion to the initial meaning and functions of the Spirit. Believers should note that, there are spirits just as there are gods and there is only one Spirit just as we have only one God. A lot of Christians have attributed the description of spirits to Spirit from their respective perception and worldly confusion, but we shall look in details what the true Spirit is, where it emanates from and its attributes in-line with its attainment.
According to 2 Corinthians 3:17 “Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.” Brethrens do not need to search for available truths as everything we need is encompassed in the Bible. God Himself is the Spirit. The Holy Spirit is one of the Trinity which was assigned by Jesus from God as our advocate [John 14:26] through whom every believers were sealed for the day of redemption [Ephesians 4:30].
The Holy Spirit emanates from directly from God and it is known as the only source of power to believers [Acts 1:8]. The world today is filled with different spirits under the disguise of the church, but the Bible has given us a guideline in identifying the true and right Spirit, [1 John 4:3] “and every spirit that does not confess Jesus is not from God. This is the spirit of the antichrist, which you heard was coming and now is in the world already.” All other spirits functioning in another realm will never accept the truth and never confess Jesus as of God. These are the spirits common in the world today, disguising to be from God but were all evolved from the antichrist which is already manifesting itself in the world.
Characteristics of the Spirit
Basically, the Spirit is identified with seven notable features that distinguish IT from other spirits. These characteristics are also seen as the definitive list of specific attributes of the Holy Spirit. They are:
- Wisdom
- Understanding
- Counsel
- Fortitude
- Knowledge
- Piety
- Fear of the Lord
These aforementioned features of the Spirit thereafter begot fruits such as love, joy, peace, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control [Galatians 5:22-23].
The Holy Spirit is also ‘a person’. His personality is portrayed by His activities:
Speech(1 Timothy 4:1, Acts 8:29); Teaching(John 14:26); Guidance(John 16:12-13); Bearing witness(John 15:26-27); Intercession(Roman 8:26); Forbidding(Acts 6-7); Permitting(Acts 16:10). The Holy Spirit has come to carry out the will of the father and the Son and it is free to acquire if you are ready to exercise faith in Christ unto repentance. The Holy Spirit received as a gift is received, by accepting Jesus Christy and being baptized in His name. We can do nothing without the Spirit, Jesus said to His disciples, “Receive the Holy Spirit” [John 20:22] as this is the only rudiment of being known of God.
