In Matthew Chapter 8, Jesus performed a number of miracles. First, a man with what is known as leprosy approaches Jesus. With great trust and humility, this man kneels before Jesus and claims that Jesus can make him clean if He wishes to. Despite the law’s prohibition against touching a leper, Jesus touches the man.
It was a brave and kind gesture from Jesus as He extended His hand and touched the man. The implication is that even though the leper resisted Jesus’ approach, He reached out and touched him. The touch was all the more significant to the affected man because it was forbidden by the ceremonial commandment to touch a leper.Naturally, he was no longer a leper as soon as Jesus touched him!
After that, in Capernaum, Jesus’ adopted hometown, a centurion approached him and begged him to come and heal his paralyzed servant. Jesus offers to visit the home of the centurion to heal the man. But the centurion replied, “Lord, I am not worthy to have you come under my roof, but only say the word and my servant will be healed,” the centurion said.
The servant was immediately healed after Jesus stated to the centurion, “Go; let it be done for you as you have believed.”
He spends the evening casting out demons and healing numerous illnesses, including the feverish mother-in-law of Peter. This was also to fulfill what the prophet Isaiah said: “He took our illnesses and bore our diseases.”
When a crowd gathered around him, Jesus gave the command to cross to the other side. They were sailing to the other side of the Sea of Galilee to get some rest While Jesus is resting, a sudden and strong storm breaks up. The 2 men wake Jesus up and beg Him to save them.
He asks why they have such little faith before giving the wind and the seas a command that instantly puts an end to the storm. The disciples are shocked and question what type of man they are following.
Jesus is challenged by two demon-possessed men when the boat reaches the opposite side of the lake rhe demons pleaded him, saying, “If you cast us out, send us away into the herd of pigs.” And he said to them, “Go.” So they came out and entered into the pigs, and lo, the whole herd ran down the steep bank into the sea and perished in the waters. Everybody in the city gathered to see Jesus and beg him to leave.
